Footlights is a thriving amateur drama group which approaches its work very "professionally." We first started performing in the 1920's, and purchased the Grand Theatre in 1950 to save it from demolition. Ever since that time, it has been a careful balance of time and effort between theatrical productions, and the continuous work involved in running, maintaining and restoring an historic building. We currently produce five plays per season in the Grand Theatre, including a traditional Christmas pantomime which is specifically aimed family enjoyment, in addition to a Family production.
In addition to the Footlights performances at the Grand, Studio Footlights also stage up to three studio productions per year at other small venues so therange of productions is very wide with something to appeal to every taste.
Footlights Members enjoy a full social life, with parties, barbecues, theatre trips, play readings etc. over the course of the year. All members receive a monthly newsletter which keeps them informed of impending productions, auditions, and activities as well as more general news. Full membership costs just £10 per year for adults and £7 for juniors and students. We have a large membership, but with a theatre to run, a full season of plays to cast, sets to build, backstage and front-of-house staff to find etc. we are always looking for new faces and fresh ideas and talents. Why not come and join us? You'd be very welcome. The benefits of joining Footlights include:
-
Receipt of personal copy of the newsletter – Footnote (by email or £5 per annum for a paper copy)
-
Voting status at the AGM
-
Great social life of this thriving theatre.

Three evacuees were spotted on Lancaster Station last week. No, war hasn't been declared - Kathryn Ferguson, Finley Clifton and David Lowe were getting into the mood for playing the leading roles in a forthcoming production of 'Carrie's War' at the Grand Theatre.
Lancaster Footlights, who are staging the play, are offering free tickets. They would like to invite anyone who was evacuated during the war, to be their guest at the matinee performance, on Saturday July 6th,. Based on a novel by Nina Bawden, the play tells the story of Carrie Willow who has to leave her comfortable London home and go to live in the house of Welsh shopkeeper, Mr Evans. This is Footlights' annual 'family' show which will appeal to all ages. Message from the Membership Secretary
I have just taken over the role of Membership Secretary and I’m still finding my way about, to some extent. I have recently had a couple of queries from relatively new members who haven’t been receiving their ‘Footnote’ and/or haven’t yet been contacted by anyone to help with productions; hopefully I’ve now set up the right contacts for them.
If there is anyone else out there in the same situation, do please let me know and I’ll sort things out for you.

Dear Caroline,
I am writing to see if any of your members would be interested in hearing about the range of Short Courses and One Day Workshops which we run at LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art).
In addition to full-time vocational training, we offer a comprehensive range of Short Courses to suit students of all abilities. This Easter we are launching a series of One Day Workshops taught by the LAMDA faculty and visiting artists. Topics range from singing and stage combat to Shakespeare and screen acting. Courses can range from a single day to an intensive eight week programme.
I wondered if we might send you an email JPEG which you might be willing to distribute to your network, or if there are any opportunities of online advertising or inclusion in your newsletters?
If you could let me know what would work best that would be great. Full details of all our courses can be found at http://www.lamda.org.uk/. Do get in touch if you’d like to find out any more.
Very best wishes,
Andrew Pearson
