New Spaces

New Spaces

Lancaster Grand Theatre is surrounded by roads on three of its four sides and is extremely restricted for space.  To increase theatre flexibility, enhance the theatre experience and allow an increase in community use, a stunning contemporary foyer has been designed with a cost estimate of £650K.  A fund raising campaign was set up in 2007 raise sufficient money to build and furnish the new foyer, an artist's impression being shown alongside.  Fundraising has progressed exteremely well and is forecast to pass the £100K mark by December 2010.  At that time, applications to larger funding bodies will begin.  We welcome any contributions to the fund and each year, we organise many fund-raising events either at the threatre or associated with it.

The next event in aid of New Spaces will be

“It's a Grand Life”

the story of the Grand Theatre.

This will take place from Thursday 11th to Saturday 13th November.

Half of the proceeds from this production will go towards our appeal. The play, written and directed by Ginny Scott, tells the story of The Grand over

its 228 year history, through the eyes of the stage manager Albert and his daughter. Look out for appearances from Sarah Siddons, Paganini, Charles Dickens and enjoy excerpts from shows which have been put on by other societies over the years, coming right up to date with the acclaimed puppet scene “A Chorus Pine” from the recent Footlights' production of “Pinocchio”.

There is to be a special reception for donors to our New Spaces appeal.

This will take place on Friday 22nd October at 6.30 pm prior to the Footlights production of "Dancing at Lughnasa". Please contact the theatre box office for further information.
