Count Arthur Strong's "Command Performance"

Saturday 17th March at 8pm

Actor Steve Delaney's amazing creation is impossible to define or pigeon hole. He has earned cult status first on radio 2, then at the Edinburgh Fringe and latterley via his Sony Award winning series on Radio 4. Following a hugely successful first run of the 'Command Performance' in Spring 2011, Arthur is touring again in early 2012.

Arthur is ably assisted by Terry Kilkenny playing Malcolm and Renee, and Dave Plimmer as Dad's Army's Alan Leslie.

Count Arthur is a fading music hall artist who is now reduced to appearing on his own Doncaster Cable TV cookery programme, though he believes he is a big star and is keen on relating reminiscences about his show business pals and his past.

Count Arthur evokes huge belly-laughs throughout the superb 90 minutes set-piece - and therein lays the trick, for if he ever tried to play it for sympathy, it would fail completely and he would just be a sad old man. Enjoy it for what it is - a comic master-class that only comes round once in a while.

Terry Alderton Tour 2012

Sunday 25th March at 8pm

Terry is back on the road with a brand new show. He's a unique and unforgettable comedy performer whose popularity grows day by day.

As seen on BBC3's Edinburgh Gala, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Road Show, Dave's One Night Stand and Comedy Central.

"People keep asking me what is the best Edinburgh Festival show I've seen so far. The answer is simple - Terry Alderton" Tommy Holgate, The Sun 20thAugust 2011

"His vocal abilitites are astonishing and he has a talent for physical comedy to match; he is a human juke-box, beat-box and jack-in-the-show. Unmissable" Three Weeks

"This mainstream act that dares to be different, that comes fromthe soul....Effortlessly yet excitingly different" The Times.

Terry Alderton was given the title of the Sun's Number One Comedian 2011

Below is also the link for the comedy store with Eddie Izzard's impersonation of Terry

The Trial, performed by Blackeyed Theatre

Thursday 29th March at 7:30pm

More than forty years after its first performance, Steven Berkoff's brilliant adaptation of Franz Kafka's masterpiece has become a classic work of 20th century theatre and a widely studied syllabus piece. Kafka's universal parable about the human condition is retold in Berkoff's startlingly original, fresh and endlessly surprising play, which Blackeyed Theatre brings back to the stage in their inimitable way.

Kafka's vision, Berkoff's crackling script and Blackeyed Theatre's trademark ensemble-style physical theatre combine to create an inspiring and unforgettable piece of drama, ideal for lovers of pure theatre and those studying the 'Berkovian' theatre style.

Dave Spikey "Words Don't Come Easy"

Saturday 31st March at 7:30pm

Inspired by the amazing reaction to his deconstruction of song lyrics in his "Best Medicine Tour", combined with his fascination with the vaguaries of the English language, Dave's hilarious new show examines many more situations in life where words don't come easy. These include tongue-tied parents explaining the facts of life, ridiculous newspaper stories, hospital speak, pathetic adolescent chat-up lines, learning a foreign language and an extended selection of song lyrics that range from the lazy to the ridiculous. Throw in a "Champion the Wonder Horse" sing-a-long, a look at Ancient Abyssinian Contraception, Rubbish school trips, Epidural anaesthesia and the Last Supper and you have all the ingredients for a rich and spicy casserole - a sort of Lexicon-Carne! Sorry

Dust

Tuesday 3rd April to Thursday 5th April at 7:30pm

It is the day of Margaret Thatcher's death. In his flat in London's Barbican, miner's leader Arthur Scargill reacts to the news that his old adversary has gone.

As they reflect on battles past, Scargill and his publisher have a visitor - an ageing militant miner with his own take on Scargill's contraversial legacy. In a Britain partly shaped by their actions, fierce old fighters slug it out over the dust of history. The catalyst of Margaret Thatcher's death triggers a series of events and reflections that go right back to the 1920s, the General Strike and another Arthur - miner's leader Arthur Cook. Meanwhile in yorkshire, a young couple face unemployment - even today the threat has not subsided.

Winning 4 and 5 star reviews and a "must see" accolade at its premiere in the 2011 Edinburgh Festival DUST now comes to Lancaster on tour.

"A polished production, DUST is clearly intended for a life beyond Edinburgh, and is likely to move and involve audiences wherever it goes" Theatre Guide.

"A raw grown-up energy, ... winning roars of applause from audiences who find themselves both moved and politically challenged." Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman.

The Pillowman

Monday 14th May to Wednesday 16th May at 7:30pm

Please note this is a StudioFoolights production to be performed at the Gregson on Moor Lane

With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka and the Brothers Grimm, this centres on a writer in an unamed totalitarian state, who is being interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a series of child murders.

The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.

"Energizing....a blindingly bright black comedy....what makes the unsettling and exhilaratingnew play from Mr McDonagh..so gripping as theatre, is how narrative art becomes the play's and the character's very life blood" NYTimes

****Contains adult themes and scenes of violence - not suitable for children ****

The Gregson seats only 80 people. Tickets purchased in advance can be collected from the Grand Theatre Box office or on the night at the Gregson. Tickets can also be purchased at the Gregson on the night of the performance.

Calendar Girls

Friday 12th and Saturday 13th October Tuesday 16th to Saturday 20th October

The thought of posing naked for a photo is a nightmare for most women. But when the ladies of Rylstone and District W.I. dared to bare all for their famous charity calendar, they riased a fortune, as well as a few eyebrows and inspired a Hollywood hit.

Now their story has been turned into a play. Lancaster Footlights is delighted to say that they too will be stripping off - all in the best possible taste of course - for a production at the Grand Theatre.
