The Footlights Club is a thriving amateur drama group which approaches its work very "professionally." They first started performing in the 1920's, and bought the Grand Theatre in 1950 to save it from demolition. Ever since that time, the club has had to carefully balance its time between theatrical productions and the continuous work involved in running, maintaining and restoring an historic building. We currently produce six plays per season, including a Christmas Show which is specifically aimed at a junior audience, as well as one-act plays and a youth theatre production.
The Club also enjoys a full social life, with club nights each month, and additional parties, barbecues, theatre trips, play readings etc. over the course of the year. All members receive a monthly newsletter which keeps them informed of impending productions, auditions, and club activities as well as more general club news. Full membership costs just £31 per year**, (which includes £16 worth of free tickets for Footlights' productions), and we also offer special rates for Junior (11 to 17), family, student and social membership. We have a large membership, (over 300) but with our own theatre to run, a full season of plays to cast, sets to build, backstage and front-of-house staff to find etc. we are always in need of new faces and fresh ideas and talents. Why don't you consider joining us? You'd be very welcome.
